The Skills Register
An easy way to record children progress towards the Early Learning
Goals
The
system will help you to see at a glance the progress of individual
children. It will guide you to identifying the child who is making
extraordinary progress as well as the child who might need a little more
help.
The
Skills Register is manageable and accessible and will save you hours of
planning and organisation. It will help guide you so that the play and
work you plan for your children will be structured and always focuses on
the Early Learning Goals.
The
Skills Register is made up of three record books.
Each
book covers approximately a year in the development of children.
STARTING
OUT - from age 3 - the first year of the Foundation Stage
ON THE WAY - from rising 4 to rising 5 - the second year
of the
Foundation Stage
FIRM FOUNDATIONS - the Reception year to rising 6 - the
third year of the Foundation Stage
Each
Skills Register allows records to be passed on from practitioner to
practitioner so that progress can be continued. New staff will
immediately be aware of a child's progress.
Each
book consists of:
- Guidance on the use of the book and suggested methods of recording.
- Record sheets - with room for a register of 25 names - centred on a
year group
- Each page
relates directly to an area of learning and the Stepping Stones
- suggested by the
QCA.
- Six pages of photocopiable sheets that will form a record of
achievement for
- each child as
their skills develop. These can travel with the child to their new
- group, class or
school, and will serve as a record for parents so they too are
- kept informed of
the progress their children are making.
